GP-1 Ceramic Fusion Butt Welder for Stranded Copper & Aluminum 20–8 AWG
The GP-1 is the first step up in Micro Weld’s GP Ceramic Fusion Series, extending the burr-free stranded conductor welding capability of the GP-0 into a wider AWG range — 20 AWG through 8 AWG — with a significant control upgrade: 99-step SCR heat selection in place of the GP-0’s 10-point tap switch. Like all GP models, the ceramic sleeve contains the weld flash, producing a smooth, finished joint straight off the machine without grinding. Multi-voltage input (120V, 240V, or 480V) and bench or 4-wheel truck mounting make it easy to position anywhere in the plant.

Applications
Splicing stranded copper conductor on wire and cable production lines in the 20–8 AWG range to maintain continuous feed and eliminate re-threading downtime between coils
Joining stranded aluminum bunches ahead of insulating, twisting, or jacketing operations where a burr-free joint prevents damage to downstream tooling or insulation
Welding stranded conductor for building wire, control cable, and power distribution applications where joint quality and dimensional consistency are critical to downstream stranding and insulation
Rejoining stranded conductor on take-up and pay-off equipment to reduce coil-change stops and maintain production throughput on multi-conductor lines
Real-World Benefits
- 99-step SCR heat control gives operators fine, repeatable heat adjustment across the full 20–8 AWG range — reducing weld variation across alloys, strand counts, and conductor sizes on a shared machine.
- Ceramic sleeve flash containment produces a burr-free joint without post-weld grinding or trimming, eliminating a secondary operation and protecting downstream insulation and stranding tooling.
- Multi-voltage input (120V / 240V / 480V) means the GP-1 installs on existing plant power in virtually any facility configuration without requiring a dedicated circuit or step-down transformer.
- Hand-operated clamps with spring mechanical upset eliminate air supply dependency — simplifying installation, reducing plumbing overhead, and keeping maintenance requirements low.
- Stepping up from the GP-0’s tap heat control to 99-step SCR gives production teams finer heat resolution for mixed-alloy or mixed-gauge operations running through a single machine.

Comparison to Similar Models
The GP-1 sits one step above the GP-0 in the five-machine GP Ceramic Fusion Series. Both use the same ceramic fusion architecture and mechanical upset, but the GP-1 covers 20–8 AWG (vs. the GP-0’s 26–18 AWG) and upgrades the heat control from a 10-point tap switch to a 99-step SCR — a meaningful precision gain for operators running varied conductor sizes. The GP-2 and GP-3 extend the range further into larger AWG stranded conductor, and the HP-1.1 handles the largest stranded cross-sections in the series. If your stranded conductor falls cleanly within 20–8 AWG and your operation benefits from fine heat resolution, the GP-1 is the right fit. For finer gauges, step down to the GP-0; for larger conductor, move up to the GP-2 or GP-3.
Best For
Wire and cable producers, building wire manufacturers, and control cable operations joining stranded copper or aluminum in the 20–8 AWG range who need burr-free ceramic fusion welding with fine 99-step SCR heat control and flexible multi-voltage installation.
